Itinerary

Wadi El Natrun, located about 100 km north of Cairo, is one of the most significant centers of early Christian monasticism. Your journey begins with a comfortable ride in a private air-conditioned vehicle from your hotel in Cairo.

This sacred region played a vital role in the development of Coptic Christianity, dating back to the 4th century when monastic life first began here. While the valley once housed nearly 50 monasteries, only four have survived through the centuries.

Start your visit at Deir El Baramous, the oldest and most secluded of the surviving monasteries. Then, explore Deir Anba Bishoy, the most important and well-preserved monastery in the area, where the body of Saint Bishoy lies in rest. Finally, visit Deir El Suryani, the smallest but most architecturally unique monastery, known for its stunning frescoes and ancient library.

After this inspiring journey through Egypt’s Christian heritage, you’ll be driven back to your hotel in Cairo, carrying with you a deeper appreciation for the spiritual legacy of Wadi El Natrun.
